Google Buzz non rispetta la privacy

Google Buzz si sta dimostrando più indiscreto del previsto. La configurazione predefinita del nuovo strumento social, da poco introdotto in Gmail, espone le attività degli iscritti al servizio alla vista degli altri utenti della Rete. Tale condizione potrebbe mettere in pericolo la privacy degli utilizzatori del nuovo sistema e potrebbe indurre i responsabili di Mountain View a rivedere in parte il funzionamento della nuova piattaforma.

Quando un utente attiva per la prima volta Google Buzz, il sistema crea automaticamente un elenco dei follower basato sui contatti presenti nella rubrica di Gmail e sulle conversazioni svolte via e-mail e chat. La lista viene pubblicata in automatico anche nel profilo Google dell'utente, ma l'operazione avviene sostanzialmente all'insaputa del nuovo iscritto e senza alcun avviso ben evidente da parte della piattaforma. L'elenco degli individui cui si è iscritti risulta così visibile a tutti gli utenti della Rete, che hanno la possibilità di consultare le liste dei contatti altrui e di aggiungere nuove persone da seguire ai loro Google Buzz.

Il sistema prevede naturalmente la possibilità di eliminare l'elenco dei contatti dal proprio profilo Google pubblico, ma solamente in un secondo momento dopo l'attivazione di Buzz. Il procedimento per rimuovere la lista è semplice, ma potrebbe risultare poco intuitivo specialmente per gli utenti meno esperti. La modifica non può essere effettuata attraverso Gmail, ambiente nel quale è stato inserito Google Buzz, ma tramite "Impostazioni account Google". Raggiunta la sezione è necessario selezionare la voce "Modifica profilo" e, nella pagina che compare, deselezionare la voce "Visualizza l'elenco delle persone di cui seguo gli aggiornamenti e delle persone che seguono i miei aggiornamenti". Ciò consentirebbe a ogni iscritto di scegliere in un secondo momento il livello di riservatezza del proprio profilo, pubblicando o meno l'elenco delle persone che segue attraverso Google Buzz. Una strategia analoga viene adottata già da alcuni social network e non dovrebbe comportare particolari problemi tecnici per essere attuata.

La strada finora percorsa da Mountain View è probabilmente legata alla volontà di far conoscere e diffondere il più rapidamente possibile il nuovo servizio.
